Job Description
As a Specialty Physician/ Doctor in Emergency Medicine, you will be working in a newly opened EM Department near London. This is the largest EM Department in Europe and you will be part of a very professional medical team. The department has installed three Ysio digital radiography systems from Siemens Healthcare to help provide a 24-hour emergency service 365 days a year. The systems are being used to treat a range of patients attending the Emergency Department and Urgent Care Centre. The staff have commented on the systems ease-of-use which has aided them in working quickly and efficiently, along with excellent image quality. You will enjoy a flexible specialty doctor grade roster, with responsibilities for supervising junior doctors, clinical leadership and running the department, both in collaboration with the consultant on duty for the day, and as the most senior person in the department overnight. There is a departmental teaching programme for the senior clinical fellows & staff grades, with 2 hours protected time per week for this, as well as rostering of 4 hours per week of supporting professional activity / continuing professional development time. The trust positively encourages sub specialist interests, academic research and will support and encourage development of additional skills. As the consultant body has expanded, the Department has embraced changes in clinical practice, including ketamine / propofol sedation, rapid sequence induction, ultrasound, advanced imaging, stroke thrombolysis, contemporary observational medicine etc. The department has close links with close links to other departments within the Trust such as intensive therapy unit, have strong links with pre-hospital care, and attachments with these will be encouraged and supported.
- Qualifications: MBBS or equivalent medical qualification - MCEM would be an advantage - Eligibility : Full registration with the GMC at time of appointment - Language Skills: All applicants must have an overall score of at least 7.5 in the academic lnternational English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Clinical skills: Acute care safe: up-to-date ALS. Hospital at night team working / experience. Out of hours experience relevant to the job.
- Desirable: Specialty knowledge exam (MCEM) - Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job -Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need. - Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the job - Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job
