Role synopsis
The
role presents a rare opportunity to be part of establishing a new operating
centre, which will aspire to the highest operating standards, comparable with
the best of BP facilities worldwide. This role includes Control and Automation
systems, Instrumented& Protective systems and field instrumentation. The
early stages of the role will see it supporting BP GPO Engineering teams at the
project design EPC contractors offices (Engineering, Procurement &
Construction contractor) influencing and enhancing Khazzan facilities design
with good Control, Automation, Instrumented and Protective Systems lessons
learned gained from previous individual’s project and/or operational
experiences travelling on business trips . Then at later stages towards the end
of Project Execute phase the role will be based at BP Muscat offices but
travelling to site involved with Khazzan facilities pre-commissioning,
commissioning and start up activities. Post facilities start up the individual
will be based in BP Muscat office being part of Ops Engineering team but with
regular trips to the interior to monitor on site the performance of the
different aspects of the Control and Automation area in support of BP Process
Safety agenda.
Key accountabilities
The

systems, instrument & protection systems and field instrumentation. The
early stages of the role will see it supporting BP GPO Engineering teams at the
project design Engineering contractor’s offices influencing and enhancing
Khazzan design with good lessons learned from previous experiences. Then at
later stages of Execute the role will be based at BP Muscat offices or at site
in Khazzan onshore gas processing facility and be involved with the
pre-commissioning, commissioning and start up activities. Post start up based
in Muscat being part of Operations Engineering team • Provide technical
assistance for start-up of facility additions and ensure key documents
(drawings, procedures, process functional descriptions, cause and effects,
etc.) are developed and maintained. • Provide guidance and coaching to young Omani
Engineers to ensure technical assurance. • Provide technical assistance to
Operations to help resolve any facility problems, as related to
instrumentation, control, safety system and measurement. • Conduct appropriate
reviews (Best in Class sharing, HAZOP, Pre Start-up .Assurance, Safety, etc. •
Participate in the Instrument, Control and Electrical Network (ICE) which
engages in knowledge management and sharing of best practices. • Custodian and
ownership of I&PS long term strategy for Oman ensuring alignment with
applicable BP and industry standards such as IEC 61511. • Custodian and Oman
owner of common I&PS engineering processes and workflows Lifecycle, Safety
Requirement Specification, Thermo well stress calculation methodology • Provide
I&PS engineering resource for Projects and TAR activities including
I&PS input into design reviews. • Custodian of I&PS discipline related
engineering tools e.g. SIL Verification (TRAC), Thermo well stress
calculations. • Develop and Maintain Oman standardized failure rate data tools
to ensure consistency across the segment • Identify improvements and
continuously improve, Instruments and process safety • Deployment of company
I&PS related technical practices / local learning systems • Provide
I&PS review / verification to complex engineering work-packs • Review and
approve (if appropriate) I&PS MOC content • Custodian of
engineering-focused contracts and approved equipment lists with major vendors •
Provide I&PS expertise to incident investigation • Drive I&PS standardisation
documentation at Oman level • Defining long term opportunities for Oman
I&PS improvement and risk reduction. • Central point for co-ordination of
I&PS related processes e.g. HAZOPs, LOPAs and CHAZOPs • Act as I&PS SPA
for cross BP global Priority Projects • Significant years’ experience in an
engineering position with control and instrumentation supporting oil / gas
production. • The candidate should have a working knowledge of industry and
government standards. • Experience with Integrated Control & Safety Systems
(ICSS), Programmable Logic Controllers, and Operator interface systems and
Control & Instrumentation from major suppliers.
Essential Education
Bachelor's
Degree in Engineering or related discipline is required

experience and job requirements
•
Significant years’ experience in an engineering position with control and
instrumentation supporting oil / gas production. • The candidate should have a
working knowledge of industry and government standards. • Experience with
Integrated Control & Safety Systems (ICSS), Programmable Logic Controllers,
and Operator interface systems and Control & Instrumentation from major
suppliers.

criteria & qualifications
•
Experience in working as part of a multi-national operations team. • Specific
knowledge of the Design, selection, and operation of safety Instrumented
systems (Flow Measurement, SCADA, network communications, and compressor
controls) is highly desirable • Awareness of the benefits of the application
and capabilities of emerging technologies in control systems for upstream
Production facilities such as Fieldbus, equipment health management, multiphase
Flow metering, data historians, advance control.
